Week II Blog 1
I have learned so much in the past couple of days. I started my week off with a Zoom meeting check-in with my mentor. During this Zoom meeting, I showed her the furniture that I picked out. She loved the storage bed that I talked about in my previous post. We both thought that having storage drawers connecting to the bed is a great way to utilize space. In my research I found out that my school dorm beds are typically Full XL and not Twin XL. I decided that I was going to make my model dorm room have Twin Xl beds because then I have more space for a nightstand, desk, and dresser. Right now, the dorm rooms have a Twin XL bed, a desk, and a dresser. By making the width of the bed smaller, the room automatically gains square footage. I also liked the idea of painting the closet door the same purpley navy as the cabinets to pull the whole dorm together. Today, I got to experience a sit in client visit! This client is redoing their master bathroom and master closet. My mentor came prepared with floor plans that she creates using a computer software. These floorplans are basically a blueprint as to what the architecture of the space will look like. I think that those drawings are so cool. My mentor decided to take down a wall in their current walk-in closet to create more space overall. Their finished product is going to have so much storage, and it is going to look absolutely beautiful. I hope that she shares with me the final looks of the spaces in a few months! On a separate note, my family recently started construction again on my house. Which means I will get a first hand experience on the construction aspect of interior design. I will get to watch my mentor "in action" with my parents and the construction workers. It'll be really cool to see my mentors designs and floor plans come to life. I will be visiting multiple floor and tile shops in the next week because I still have to pick out a design for the bathroom in my dorm room!
Here is an example of what a floor plan might look like...
