Week III Blog 1
The first couple days (of this week) were probably the most interesting days of my entire Senior Project. I spent Monday working on finding more furniture for my design boards. Like I have said before, my design boards are what I am presenting as my final project. Tuesday was the coolest day, though. I visited this place in Solon called Granex. This place is where one would go to pick out countertops and they are also made there. It was so cool to see the warehouse in which these countertops are made. The office had a cool layout too. You walk in and there is a small room that has large samples of all the granites and or quartz finishes. To get to the back/warehouse part you walk down this super long hallway which has different finishes hung on each side. Being able to see so many different variations of finishes was very neat. There were so many pretty ones as well as generic-looking ones. The warehouse has so many different-sized slabs for all the finishes. They are just sitting in super long rows. They also had a section where they keep the sample finishes. I spent a lot of time looking through all of those samples. I had to pick one of them out for the countertops of my model dorm room. I also grabbed a view so that people can feel and or see them during my presentation. One interesting thing I learned while I was there is that there are three different textures that a countertop can be. They can have a glossy finish, a matte finish, or a leather finish. I took a sample square of a leather finish for people to touch during my presentation. I had no idea that a textured countertop was referred to as leather. After my trip to Granex, I went back to the paint store to get more samples. I needed more samples for my design boards and wanted to make sure I did not like any other colors. I started getting the materials I need to complete my design boards as well. Supplies like sticky tack and tape. I will have a countertop sample and a vinyl wood sample on my design board. I think it adds a really cool 3D element as well as a textured element.
