Week III Blog 2

The end of the week went by rather quickly. I used that time to finish up my furniture search and made some decisions. I took all the furniture I wanted and saved the photos into a folder on my computer. I also included the prices in these photos so that I can display that on my design board. I forgot to mention this before, but I also had my Hawken mentor check-in this week. That meeting was quick and I thought it went really well. I have learned how important it is to be organized and on time in this field of study. I spent some time studying the psychology behind different colors too. It is something I will introduce and show during my presentation on Thursday. I just find it so interesting how certain colors and or color schemes can make you feel a certain way. Since I am using pretty neutral colors in the model dorm rooms there was not much to adjust. However, I am using quite a bit of blue for the cabinets and closets. I wanted to make sure that the color blue did not have any negative connotations associated with it. Most blues make said person feel calm and some said confident. Those are two great qualities for people to feel when living in these model dorm rooms. Since these are model dorms and not my personal dorm, I could not really illustrate my creative eye. In my own dorm room, I would have fake plants all over, modern artwork, and a ton of accent pillows. I would definitely add some cute rugs throughout the room too since the flooring gets a bit chilly. I made some progress on my design boards too because I finally started putting it all together. I spent a ton of time finding and cropping my images so that I could print them. I was able to get my colored printer to work which was a huge plus. I spent hours cutting out my furniture pieces and taping them onto my design boards. I will have three boards to present on Thursday. The first one is the floor, countertop finish, closet color, wall color, cabinet color, and the two-person sitting area. The second board will show the dark furniture and the third board will show the light furniture. I decided to do both because I could not decide which I liked better, and that way, not every room is the exact same.
